Black Canyon

20 years ago Black Canyon was an undeveloped area of the city of San Rafael. Steep, oak studded hills framed the narrow canyon.

Today, in 1899, Black Canyon is home to the Black Canyon Mine, the Black Canyon Drinking Mining & Railroad Company and other businesses owned and operated by BS Ventures. Red Rock City has been developed to provide entertainment and services for the men and women who work and live in Black Canyon. Everything in Black Canyon is owned by BS Ventures. Technically, Black Canyon is still part of the city of San Rafael but, effectively, is an independent enclave with rules and regulations set by ‘Baron’ Spilsbury aka BS and enforced by BS Security.

Only members of BS Security can carry hand guns. Residents with hunting permits can own hunting rifles. ‘Leisure Services’ venues open 24/7. There are no taxes. Workers and their families come from disparate ethnic & religious backgrounds. A multi-purpose chapel/synagogue/mosque serves the diverse community.

Visitors to Black Canyon must arrive by rail and, upon arrival, must surrender any weapons to the safekeeping of BS Security, and agree to observe all Black Canyon regulations.
